Updated: June 2026. Please let us know if anything is outdated and we will get it updated!

Why Georgetown is Worth the Trip for Happy Hour

Georgetown doesn't have a Metro stop, which means it's slightly less accessible than other DC neighborhoods — but that also means the crowds are more intentional. The people here came to be here, and the bars and restaurants reflect that with a higher baseline of quality.

The neighborhood's happy hour scene divides neatly into a few buckets: waterfront spots along K Street and the Georgetown waterfront with Potomac views, wine bars and upscale restaurants around M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, and neighborhood classics tucked into the side streets. There's something for every vibe and every budget.

Parking is notoriously difficult in Georgetown, so the easiest approach is the DC Circulator Bus (runs from Rosslyn Metro and Dupont Circle into Georgetown), an Uber, or a bike. Once you're in, everything is walkable.

Best Georgetown Happy Hours

3100 K St NW | Daily 3–6pm

Fiola Mare is one of Georgetown's most celebrated upscale seafood restaurants, and their happy hour at the bar is genuinely one of the best deals in the neighborhood. Daily 3–6pm, you're getting $12 wine and handcrafted cocktails alongside a rotating small plates menu, all at the bar overlooking the Georgetown waterfront. This is the spot if you want the upscale experience without the full dinner price tag. The Potomac views at sunset make it especially worth timing right.

3050 K Street NW | Mon–Fri 4–7pm

Right on the Georgetown waterfront, Nick's is a classic. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday 4–7pm with $6 beer, $7 wine, $8 well drinks, and $8–12 appetizers. The outdoor seating along the water is some of the best real estate in DC for a weekday drink, especially once the weather gets warm. This is the move if you want a laid-back, no-pretense waterfront happy hour.

1035 31st St NW | Daily 4–6pm

The wine bar attached to Chez Billy Sud, Georgetown's beloved French bistro. Bar à Vin runs rotating drink and food specials daily 4–6pm in an intimate, candlelit space that feels distinctly un-DC. If you're looking for a quieter, more European-feeling happy hour, good wine, good snacks, no sports on the TV, this is it. One of Georgetown's hidden gems.

3000 K Street NW | Mon–Fri 3–6:30pm

Sequoia has been a Georgetown waterfront institution for decades and the happy hour holds up. Monday through Friday 3–6:30pm you're getting $6–8 beers, $8 wines, $9 cocktails, and discounted appetizers on an extensive outdoor deck right on the Potomac. The space is large enough that you can almost always find a seat, which isn't a given at other Georgetown waterfront spots. Great for groups.

2300 N St NW | Daily 3:30–5:30pm

A slightly shorter window but worth flagging, Bar Angie runs daily 3:30–5:30pm with half-priced martinis, $8 beer, and $12 wine. If you're in the West Georgetown/Foggy Bottom area and want a sophisticated pre-dinner drink in an elegant setting, this is a strong option.

3000 K St NW | Sun 3pm–close | Mon 11am–close | Tue–Fri 3:30–6pm

Founding Farmers' Georgetown waterfront location is one of the best all-around happy hour values in the neighborhood, and one of the few spots with both Sunday and all-day Monday deals. Tuesday through Friday it's $6 select drafts, $8 house wine, highballs, and cocktails plus discounted small bites at the bar. The Sunday and Monday windows are exceptional and rare for Georgetown, making this the go-to for weekend and start-of-week happy hours. The waterfront patio with Potomac views puts it over the top in summer.

3056 M St NW | Sun–Fri 3–7pm

One of the longest happy hour windows in Georgetown at four hours, six days a week. $6 draft beers, house wine, and rail drinks plus $7 cocktails and $7 appetizers. Thunder Burger is a great option for groups who want a casual, no-pretense M Street spot without the upscale price tag, the burger and beer combo during happy hour is one of the better deals on the strip.

3116 M St NW | Sun–Fri 4–7pm

A Spanish tapas bar right on M Street with a generous six-day happy hour running 4–7pm. $6 rail drinks and red sangria, $7 sparkling sangria, $8 cocktails, and $7 small plates. The sangria pricing in particular is hard to beat, a pitcher of sparkling sangria on Bodega's patio on a warm evening is one of Georgetown's better happy hour moves. Good for groups who want something more festive than a standard bar.

1064 Wisconsin Ave NW | Mon 4–6:30pm | Tue–Fri 3–6:30pm

Pinstripes is Georgetown's most unique happy hour venue, an Italian-American bistro with bowling lanes and bocce courts overlooking the C&O Canal. Happy hour runs Monday 4–6:30pm and Tuesday through Friday 3–6:30pm with $5 draft beers and wine, $9 frozen drinks, $10 cocktails, and $10 appetizers. If you're looking for happy hour with an activity built in, or planning something for a group that wants more than just drinks, this is the move. Book a bocce court and order a round of frozen drinks and you've got a genuinely fun Georgetown evening.

The most comprehensive food tour on the list at 3.5 hours — this one goes deep on the neighborhood's culinary history alongside the tastings.

History & Walking Tours

Historic Georgetown: History, Gossip & Architecture Walking Tour ⭐ 4.9 (360 reviews) | 2 hours | From $49

Georgetown Spy History Tour with a Former CIA Officer ⭐ 4.9 (18 reviews) | 1.5 hours | From $85

Georgetown has deep ties to DC's intelligence community — former CIA officers, diplomats, and spies have called this neighborhood home for decades. This tour is led by a former CIA officer and covers the real history behind those connections. Unique and genuinely interesting.

Ghosts of Georgetown & The Exorcist Steps Walking Tour ⭐ 4.8 (673 reviews) | 1.5 hours | From $39

The Exorcist steps on M Street are one of Georgetown's most famous landmarks — and this ghost tour covers the neighborhood's darker history at a very accessible price point. At $39, it's the most affordable tour on the list and would pair well with a post-tour drink at one of the waterfront bars nearby.

Getting to Georgetown

By Bus: The DC Circulator Georgetown-Union Station route drops you right on M Street. The Rosslyn-Georgetown route connects from Rosslyn Metro (Blue/Orange/Silver lines).

By Bike: Capital Bikeshare has stations throughout Georgetown. The riverfront trail from the National Mall is a scenic option in good weather.

By Rideshare: Easiest option, especially for evening trips when the Circulator frequency drops.

Parking: Georgetown has street parking (metered, competitive) and several garages off Wisconsin Ave and M Street. Expect to walk a few blocks.

Tips for Georgetown Happy Hour

  • Time the waterfront spots right. Nick's, Sequoia, and Fiola Mare all face west — an early evening happy hour in summer with the sun setting over the Potomac is genuinely special. Aim for 5–6pm.

  • Weekdays are best. Georgetown on weekends is crowded with tourists and Georgetown University visitors. Happy hour crowds on a Tuesday or Wednesday are much more manageable.

  • Bar seating vs. table seating. At upscale spots like Fiola Mare, happy hour pricing is typically bar-only. Confirm before you sit down.

  • Make a night of it. Georgetown is extremely walkable. A food tour in the late afternoon followed by a waterfront happy hour at sunset is one of the better DC evenings you can plan.
