The Ultimate Guide to Washington DC Happy Hours: 300+ Best Deals by Neighborhood

Updated: June 2026. Please let us know if anything is outdated, and we will get it updated!

Washington DC has one of the best happy hour scenes in the country, and it's not particularly close. The combination of a Metro system that connects everything, a fiercely competitive restaurant market, and a city full of people who finish work at a reasonable hour has produced hundreds of legitimate deals across every neighborhood. We've tracked them all so you don't have to.

Whether you're looking for a low-key beer after work, a date night spot with discounted cocktails, or a rooftop with a view, this guide covers the best DC happy hours by neighborhood.

Quick Links:

U Street and Shaw

U Street is the beating heart of DC's happy hour scene. The stretch between 9th and 16th Streets has one of the highest concentrations of bars and restaurants in the city, and Shaw adds a wave of newer, upscale options without losing the neighborhood energy. If you can only pick one part of DC to explore, start here.

Abuare Bar and Restaurant runs happy hour daily from 12-6 PM with $8 rotating cocktails. That midday start time makes it one of the longest windows in the city, and for an Ethiopian restaurant on U Street, the value is hard to beat.

Bar Charley is one of those neighborhood institutions that holds up year after year. Daily 4-6:30 PM deals include $5 7 Locks Devil's Alley IPA and $7 Old Time Lager. The lowlit interior and genuinely stiff pours make this a go-to for a reason.

Kathmandu Tapas & Cocktails is one of U Street's most exciting newer openings — a Nepali cocktail bar and kitchen in the old Polly's space. Happy hour runs Tuesday-Thursday 4-6 PM with $7 beer and mocktails, $9 wine, $8-14 specialty cocktails, BOGO select cocktails, $1 momos, and $7-12 tapas. There's also a reverse happy hour Tuesday-Thursday and Sunday 9-11 PM. The $1 momo deal alone is worth planning around.

Barkada Wine and Cocktail Bar offers Monday-Friday 5-6:30 PM happy hour with $9 select wines and cocktails plus $5 snacks. The Filipino-inspired small plates are worth ordering even outside the deal window.

600 T is Shaw's Instagram-friendly rooftop spot. Wednesday-Friday 5-7 PM with $14 cocktails. Not the cheapest on this list, but the view earns it.

Amazonia / Causa on Blagden Alley runs Monday-Friday 5-7 PM with $7 beer, $9 wine, and $9 cocktails. Two different restaurants, one great alley.

Anju does Korean-inflected happy hour Monday-Friday 5-6 PM: $7 wines by glass, $7 Soju Spritz, $5 Kirin Ichiban Draft, and $7 Shandy. A solid pre-dinner spot before heading further up 18th Street.

Adams Morgan

Adams Morgan is DC's most eclectic happy hour corridor. The 18th Street stretch combines international restaurants, legendary dive bars, rooftop terraces, and late-night energy in a way no other neighborhood in the city quite replicates. It runs hot on weekends, offers genuine variety at every price point, and has the kind of independent, neighborhood-first character that makes it a perennial favorite for locals.

Amparo Fondita runs Tuesday-Friday 5-7 PM and Saturday-Sunday 3-6 PM with $6 beers, $9 wine and cocktails, $15 mezcal, $5 tacos, and $9 botanas. The weekend afternoon window and the mezcal list make this the go-to for anyone who wants a proper Mexican happy hour rather than just a margarita special.

Vagabond Bar and Kitchen runs Tuesday-Friday 5-7 PM and Sunday 4 PM to close with $4 Medella Light, $6 house wine, $7 white sangria, $9 Illegal Combo, $4 off signature cocktails, and discounted bar snacks. The Sunday all-day window is one of the better deals on 18th Street for a relaxed weekend evening.

The Green Zone is one of DC's best cocktail bars, period. The award-winning Middle Eastern cocktail bar runs Tuesday-Saturday 5-8 PM and all day Sunday with $1.50 off drafts, $11 wine, and $12 cocktails. The three-hour evening window and Sunday all-day deal make it one of the most accessible happy hours on the corridor for a bar of this caliber.

Shenanigan's is Adams Morgan's classic Irish pub, running Monday-Friday 3-7 PM with $1 off all drinks and $5 taco baskets. Four hours of discounted pours in a no-pretense pub environment — exactly what a neighborhood happy hour should be.

Roofers Union runs daily 5-7 PM happy hour with deals available across the entire main dining room floor, bar and dining area included. One of the more generous seating policies on the corridor, and the rooftop access makes it a warm-weather anchor for Adams Morgan evenings.

Madam's Organ is an Adams Morgan institution: live blues nightly, a rooftop deck, billiards, and soul food in a room that's been defining the neighborhood's character for decades. The happy hour is the entry point to one of the best bar experiences in the city.

No Goodbyes inside The Line Hotel runs Monday-Friday 3-6 PM and Saturday 2-6 PM with $6 house beer, $8 house wines, $9 Formerly Fancy Cocktails, $12 Contemporary Cocktails, and discounted small plates. The Saturday 2 PM start makes it one of the earlier weekend happy hours in the neighborhood.

Jack Rose Dining Saloon runs Monday-Saturday 5-7:30 PM with $2 off beer and wine, $12 Whiskey Classics, and 50% off bar bites. The deal runs in the Saloon during the week and moves to the rooftop terrace on Friday and Saturday — home to one of the largest whiskey collections in the Western Hemisphere, with over 2,700 expressions.

CODE RED runs daily 5-7 PM with $5 beer, $6 wine, $7-10 cocktails, and $8-10 appetizers, plus 50% off whiskey flights on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Seven-day happy hour with a genuine food menu and one of the more distinctive weekly specials in Adams Morgan.

Capitol Hill and Navy Yard

Capitol Hill feels different from the rest of DC at happy hour. The crowd skews toward staffers and longtime residents rather than tourists, and the neighborhood's combination of old-school dive bars and newer restaurant openings gives it more range than people expect. Navy Yard, just south, has become its own destination with waterfront bars and a steady game-day crowd.

AMBAR Restaurant runs Monday-Friday 4-6 PM with $6 beer, $7 wine, and $8 cocktails. The Balkan menu is one of the more interesting on the Hill, and the unlimited small plates option at dinner makes it worth a full visit.

Awakening Bar & Grill does Monday-Friday 4-7 PM with $4 select draft beers, $7 lemon drops and Jameson, $2 off specialty cocktails, and a solid food menu featuring $5 crispy green beans, $7 candied bacon deviled eggs, $10 mambo wings, and $2 off all bar bites. The three-hour window and food selection make this one of the better value plays on the Hill.

Baan Siam offers Tuesday-Friday 5-7 PM happy hour with $5 beers, $8 frozen cocktails, and $5 bites. Thai restaurant near Capitol Hill with flavors that hold up.

Art and Soul at YOTEL runs Monday-Friday 3-7 PM: $6 wine, $7 local drafts, $5 bottled and canned beer, and a $10 daily cocktail special. The 3 PM start time is rare and useful.

Bistro Cacao is a French bistro doing Monday-Saturday 3-6 PM with $6 Kronenbourg Lager, $7 house wines, and $8 daily specials. Old-world European charm without the price tag.

Any Day Now at 2 I Street SE runs Sunday, Wednesday-Saturday 5-6:30 PM with $5 beers, $10 wine and cocktails, $6 for 3 tacos, $10 burger, and $9 for 5 wings. Navy Yard's neighborhood bar with solid food deals and a welcoming vibe.

Bar Pendry at The Wharf runs Monday-Thursday 4-6 PM with $6 beers, $12 wines, daily cocktail deals, and $9 small plates. The waterfront setting earns its spot on this list.

Agua 301 Restaurant at 301 Water Street SE is right on the Navy Yard waterfront, running daily 3:30-6:30 PM: $5 drafts, $6 wines, $7.50 margaritas, $7 sangria, $3 off frozen drinks, and daily food specials. Seven days a week with a waterfront view — one of the best all-around happy hour values in the Navy Yard area.

For a full breakdown of Navy Yard bars and pre-game options, check out our Nationals Game Day Guide.

Georgetown

Georgetown lacks a Metro stop, which filters out a certain kind of tourist and keeps the happy hour crowd leaning more toward locals and Georgetown students. The Potomac River waterfront, cobblestone streets, and historic architecture make it one of the more pleasant places in the city to sit outside with a drink. For the full breakdown, check our Georgetown Happy Hour Guide.

Fiola Mare is Georgetown's most celebrated waterfront seafood restaurant, and their daily bar happy hour 3-6 PM with $12 wine and handcrafted cocktails is one of the best deals in the neighborhood. Potomac views at sunset make the timing worth it.

Nick's Riverside Grill runs Monday-Friday 4-7 PM right on the Georgetown waterfront: $6 beer, $7 wine, $8 well drinks, and $8-12 appetizers. The outdoor seating along the water is some of the best real estate in DC for a weekday drink.

Sequoia has been a Georgetown waterfront institution for decades. Monday-Friday 3-6:30 PM: $6-8 beers, $8 wines, $9 cocktails, and discounted appetizers on an extensive outdoor deck right on the Potomac. Large enough that you can almost always find a seat.

Bar a Vin runs daily 4-6 PM with rotating drink and food specials. Wine-focused, candlelit, and distinctly un-DC in the best way. One of Georgetown's hidden gems.

Founding Farmers Fishers & Bakers at 3000 K Street is one of the best all-around values in Georgetown, with Tuesday-Friday 3:30-6 PM deals on $6 select drafts, $8 house wine and cocktails, plus discounted small bites. The Sunday and all-day Monday windows are rare for Georgetown and make this the go-to for weekend happy hours with Potomac waterfront views.

Thunder Burger & Bar on M Street runs Sunday-Friday 3-7 PM: $6 draft beers, house wine and rail drinks, $7 cocktails and appetizers. One of the longest windows in Georgetown and a casual counterpoint to the waterfront spots.

Bar Angie offers daily 3:30-5:30 PM happy hour with half-priced martinis, $8 beer, and $12 wine. Classic Georgetown sophistication for a relatively short but daily window.

Dupont Circle and Logan Circle

Dupont Circle is where DC's happy hour culture arguably started and it still delivers. Wine bars, cocktail lounges, and sidewalk cafes make it one of the most walkable neighborhoods in the city for an evening out. Logan Circle, just north, adds upscale dining to the mix. See our full Dupont Circle Happy Hour Guide for even more.

Alero Dupont is one of the best value happy hours in the neighborhood. Sunday-Thursday 3-7 PM with $5 flat pricing across margaritas, mules, wine, beer, martinis, and well drinks, plus discounted appetizers. The four-hour window and $5-across-the-board pricing make it genuinely hard to beat.

Agora DC runs Monday-Friday 4:30-6 PM with $9 house cocktails, $7 wines by the glass, $5 draft beers, and $7-8 flatbreads. This isn't just a drinks deal — order a few flatbreads to share and you've got a full early dinner in a warm, Turkish-inspired room.

Boqueria Dupont offers a seven-day happy hour daily 3-6 PM: $6 cervezas, $8 sangrias and martinis, $9 wines and cocktails, $29 margarita pitchers, and $32 sangria pitchers. The pitcher pricing is exceptional for a sit-down Spanish restaurant of this quality. Great for groups who want tapas and drinks without the full dinner price.

The Board Room Dupont Circle at 1737 Connecticut Ave runs Monday-Friday 4-7 PM and Saturday-Sunday noon to 7 PM: $5 select drafts and rail cocktails, $6 house wines, $17 select pitchers. A board game lounge with one of the most generous weekend windows in Dupont. Grab a pitcher, grab a game, stay for the afternoon.

Amparo Fondita at 2002 P Street runs Tuesday-Friday 5-7 PM and Saturday-Sunday 3-6 PM: $6 beers, $9 wine and cocktails, $15 mezcal, $5 tacos, and $9 botanas. The weekend afternoon window is a differentiator in Dupont, where most spots stick to weekdays only.

Lauriol Plaza at 1835 18th Street is a Dupont institution. The rooftop terrace is one of the most sought-after seats in the neighborhood in summer, and daily drink specials run an extraordinarily generous Monday-Friday window. Check the listing for current specials and arrive early on warm evenings — the rooftop fills fast.

City Tap House Dupont at 1250 Connecticut Ave runs Monday-Friday 3-6 PM: $6 drafts, $7 wine, $8 cocktails, and $9 appetizers. One of the better craft beer selections in Dupont, and the appetizer pricing makes it easy to stay through dinner without the bill getting out of hand.

14th Street Corridor

14th Street has been DC's restaurant row for over a decade and it still earns the title. The stretch from Thomas Circle up through Logan Circle has more acclaimed chefs and creative concepts per block than almost anywhere else in the city. It's also one of the best corridors for a proper happy hour crawl — most spots are walkable from each other and the quality floor is high throughout.

Black Whiskey on 14th Street is the spot if you want a laid-back whiskey bar without the attitude. Pool table, 70+ whiskeys, bar pies, and bartenders who know their stuff. Happy hour runs Sunday-Thursday all day and Friday-Saturday 5-10 PM. In June, mention DMV Happy Hours for 20% off your entire bill.

Amélie DC Bistro & Wine Bar runs daily 4-7 PM (4-6 PM on Friday and Saturday) with $8 cocktails, $10 house wine, $12 wine flights, $40 house wine bottles, discounted small plates, and a $26 burger and beer or moules-frites with white wine combo. Seven-day happy hour with a genuine French bistro menu makes this one of the most consistent options on the corridor.

Doi Moi at 1800 14th Street NW brings Vietnamese street food flavors to the happy hour game. Monday-Friday 3-6 PM and late night Monday-Thursday 9 PM to close: $6 drafts, $2 off all wines, and $7.50 food bites including steamed dumplings and bao buns. One of the more food-forward happy hours on the corridor.

Salazar is a taco and tequila rooftop at 1819 14th Street running Tuesday-Friday 5-7 PM and Saturday-Sunday 5-6 PM with $5 Corona/Pacifico, $9 Salazar margarita by the glass, $26 margarita pitchers, $6 Sauza Silver shots, $5 select tacos, $1 chips and salsa, and $3 off quesadillas. The pitcher pricing on the rooftop is one of the better group deals on the corridor.

Ted's Bulletin runs Monday-Friday 3-6:30 PM with drink and food specials including a burger happy hour meal that's one of the more satisfying weekday deals on the strip. Solid American diner energy that works equally well for a solo post-work drink or a group catch-up.

Jane Jane runs Monday-Thursday 5-7 PM with $8 beer and wine and $10 punch of the day. One of 14th Street's best cocktail bars — no reservations, first come first served, and a beautifully designed room that's worth arriving early for.

Red Light Bar & Detroit Pizza runs Monday-Thursday 5-7 PM with $6 Red Light Lager, $7 rotating wines, $9 specialty cocktails, and $11-12 pizzas, plus a late-night happy hour Friday-Saturday 10 PM to close. The weeknight pizza deal is one of the more satisfying happy hour food offers on the corridor — Detroit-style squares plus a cold beer at a real price.

Barcelona Wine Bar is the anchor for the wine-focused end of 14th Street. Monday-Friday 4-6 PM with $6 wines, $7 cocktails, half off bottles of sherry and sparkling, and $13.50 charcuterie. The wine program is the real draw, and the charcuterie board is enough to call dinner.

Kingfisher in Logan Circle runs happy hour seven days a week, Monday-Friday 4-8 PM and weekends 5-8 PM, with craft beers, canned wines, cocktails, and activities including terrible movies and some of DC's better trivia nights on Tuesdays. One of the few bars in the city with a genuine seven-day happy hour window that runs until 8 PM.

H Street NE

H Street has gone from underdog to destination over the last decade and the happy hour scene reflects that. The corridor runs from Atlas Performing Arts Center east through a dense mix of Belgian taverns, South Asian street food, craft cocktail bars, and neighborhood British pubs. It attracts a creative, local-first crowd and the bars here have more personality per block than almost anywhere else in DC.

Binge Bar runs Wednesday-Friday 5-8 PM with $4 wine, $5 beers, $7 cocktails, and discounted bar bites. One of the longest happy hour windows on the corridor and a solid anchor for starting a night out east.

Daru is one of the best Indian cocktail bars in the country, full stop. Daily happy hour 5-6:30 PM features $8 wines and martinis alongside snacks under $10. The cocktail program draws from Indian botanicals and spirits in ways most DC bars don't attempt. Get there early — it fills up fast.

Cynthia Bar and Bistro runs Tuesday-Saturday 4-7 PM (bar only on Friday and Saturday) with $10 wines, rail drinks, and house cocktails, $13 premium house cocktails, plus discounted snacks, meals, and sweets. One of the more food-forward happy hours on H Street.

Granville Moore's is DC's original Belgian tavern and still one of the best happy hour food deals in the city. Mini mussels with bread and Belgian meatballs at happy hour prices are genuinely hard to beat. The 50+ Belgian beer list doesn't hurt either. A H Street institution since 2007.

Tapori is Daru's sister spot, bringing South Asian street food to H Street. Weekday happy hour 5-6:30 PM features $8 wines and martinis, plus snacks under $10 like crispy spiced cauliflower and kulcha flatbreads. A natural double-header with Daru if you're making a night of it.

Hush Harbor is H Street's phone-free craft cocktail bar running daily 5-7 PM with $5 beer and wine, $10 cocktails, and bar bites under $10. A deliberate, no-distractions experience that's become one of the corridor's more distinctive concepts — and at these prices, an easy entry point.

The Haymaker Bar runs Monday-Saturday 5-7 PM with $7 draft beers, $9 wines, and $10 cocktails. A neighborhood cocktail bar with a strong local following and a happy hour window that covers most of the week.

The Queen Vic is H Street's British pub running daily 5-7 PM with $1 off all drafts, rail drinks, and cocktails, plus $1 off all small plates. Seven days a week at a genuine neighborhood pub — the fish and chips are the real deal and the crowd is reliably good company.

Downtown and Penn Quarter

Downtown DC catches the office crowd and the pre-show crowd heading to Capital One Arena. It's not the most atmospheric stretch for happy hour, but the deals are real and the locations are convenient. Check out our full Capital One Arena and Penn Quarter Guide for game and show night options.

1831 Bar & Lounge runs Monday-Friday 5-8 PM with $5 beers, $6 wine, $8 cocktails, and half-off appetizers. The 8 PM cutoff is one of the later windows in the city, making it useful for the after-dinner crowd.

Astro Beer Hall does Monday-Friday 3-6 PM with $4 select drafts, $2 off all other draft beers, $6 select cocktails and rail drinks, $5 house wine, and $7 chicken fingers. Beer hall format with a solid tap list and an early start time.

Art and Soul at YOTEL at 415 New Jersey Ave NW runs Monday-Friday 3-7 PM: $6 wine, $7 local drafts, $5 bottled and canned beer, and a $10 daily cocktail special. One of the better hotel bar happy hours in the area.

Bistro Cacao on Capitol Hill runs Monday-Saturday 3-6 PM with $6 Kronenbourg Lager, $7 house wines, and $8 daily specials. Easy walking distance from Penn Quarter and the Mall.

Baan Siam at 425 I Street NW is convenient to both Downtown and Penn Quarter, running Tuesday-Friday 5-7 PM with $5 beers, $8 frozen cocktails, and $5 bites.

The Wharf

The Wharf transformed Southwest DC's waterfront from a forgotten industrial zone into the city's most exciting dining and entertainment destination. This mile-long development along the Washington Channel combines 20+ restaurants, The Anthem concert venue, waterfront promenades, and boat cruise departures into something that feels less like Washington DC and more like a coastal resort. Happy hours here lean toward craft cocktails and waterfront ambiance over deep discounts — you're paying a premium for the views, and it's usually worth it. For the full guide, see our Wharf DC Complete Guide.

Whiskey Charlie is The Wharf's best happy hour full stop. The rooftop bar above Canopy by Hilton runs Monday-Friday 5-7 PM and Saturday-Sunday 2-5 PM with $5 beers and seltzers, $9 wines, $10 cocktails, $4 brisket bao buns, and $6 crispy chicken taquitos. The 360-degree views of the Potomac, the DC skyline, and the waterfront below make the weekend afternoon window especially worth building a day around.

Bar Pendry inside Pendry Washington DC hotel runs Monday-Thursday 4-6 PM with $6 beers, $12 wines, daily cocktail specials, and $9 small plates. The dark, moody interior is a contrast to The Wharf's bright waterfront energy — better for a quieter conversation than a group happy hour, but a genuinely nice room.

bartaco runs Monday-Friday 3-6 PM with $8-10 cocktails, $4.75 Monopolio beer, discounted wines and seltzers, and $3 small bites with deal stacking options. Beach-casual tacos at happy hour prices with waterfront seating — The Wharf's most laid-back option and the easiest entry point for a casual after-work stop.

District Winery is DC's only urban winery, operating right on The Wharf and producing wine onsite. The tasting room offers wine flights, bottles by the glass, and small plates in a waterfront setting that makes it one of the more unique happy hour experiences in the city.

A Few Tips Before You Go

Arrive before 5 PM. The best seats at U Street, Adams Morgan, and Wharf spots are gone by 5:30 on weekdays. Getting there at 4:30 means better seating, faster service, and more time on the deal window.

Order food. Spots like Amparo Fondita ($5 tacos), Barcelona Wine Bar ($13.50 charcuterie), Awakening Bar & Grill ($5-10 bar bites), and Thunder Burger ($7 appetizers) offer deals good enough to call dinner if you order strategically.

Use the Metro. DC's Metro system makes neighborhood-hopping easy and eliminates parking entirely. The Green/Yellow lines cover U Street and Navy Yard. Orange/Silver/Blue hit Capitol Hill and connect to The Wharf via L'Enfant Plaza. Red serves Dupont Circle and connects toward Adams Morgan. See our full Metro Happy Hour Guide for station-by-station breakdowns.

Check the map. Our interactive happy hour map shows every listing geographically so you can find what's near you or plan a crawl between neighborhoods.
